First Nations and Indigenous Communities: Please Read

Introduction:

Tansi, Welcome. Today marks an important step forward for the Pehta Foundation as we introduce the Exposure Draft of the Pehta Framework, designed by and for Indigenous communities. This initiative aims to standardize how Indigenous Benefit and Opportunity data is reported across Canada, ensuring that our communities have a voice in defining transparency, credibility, and comparability in the financial and impact reporting by corporations and government that interact with us.

What is the Exposure Draft?

The Exposure Draft is a proposed set of standards for Indigenous Community Benefit Accounting. It reflects the work and wisdom of our communities, and while it is not the final version, it’s a critical step in creating a robust framework that will benefit us. This draft is built on comprehensive research and meaningful dialogue, ensuring that our perspectives and aspirations guide its development.

Why Your Voice Matters:

We invite all First Nations and Indigenous communities to participate in this important process. Whether you agree with the draft or have alternative ideas, your voice is essential. This is your opportunity to influence how industries interact with our communities and to ensure the Pehta Framework resonates with our unique needs and goals. Your feedback will help shape a standard that truly reflects Indigenous values and supports meaningful, long-term partnerships.

How to Share Your Thoughts:

We encourage you to review the draft and share your insights with us. Please note the version number of the Exposure Draft you’re commenting on, as it can be found at the bottom right corner of the cover page. We want to ensure your feedback is considered in the correct context, as micro changes may occur throughout this period.

Why Participate?

Your participation helps ensure that this framework isn't just a set of standards, but a powerful tool for empowering our communities and shaping our futures. By providing input, you help make sure the Pehta Framework serves as a foundation for strong, sustainable partnerships between our communities and the industries that work with us.

How Your Feedback Will Be Used:

Once your feedback is submitted, it will be reviewed by our Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), who will evaluate its relevance to ensuring the framework meets the expectations of Indigenous communities. After this review, modifications may be made, and a second Exposure Draft will be shared for additional input. The final feedback will be considered by the Community Acceptance Board (CAB), who will ratify the framework into a formal standard that reflects the voice of our people.
